Gypsum and gypsum products: Portland cement - composition types, setting and hardening, structure of the hardened paste and its effect on mechanical properties. Aggregates, mixing water, additives. Fresh concrete, properties of hardened concrete, durability, mix design, concrete technology, testing and quality control, laboratory exercises.

Behavior of concrete in structures: volume changes, cracking and means to reduce its occorrence. Special concrete technologies for in- situ casting as well as for precasting. Solution of a special problem in concrete technology in the laboratory, including: literature survey, visits to building sites or factories as required, preparation of test programs, preliminary tests of materials design of concrete mixes, casting and testing of concrete specimens, evaluation of test results, oral and written report.
